Institute of Research and Community Services, State University of Yogyakarta (LPPM UNY) is one of the implementing agencies in charge of carrying out the academic duties and functions of Yogyakarta State University in the field of research and community service. LPPM UNY was originated from two institutes in Yogyakarta State University, the Institute of Research and the institute of Community Services. Both institutions were established under the Decree of Mendikbud (Minister of Education and Culture) RI number 0101/O/1993, dated February 27, 1993 and amended by the Decree of the Minister of Education RI number 0174/O/1995, dated July 18, 1995 on the Organization and Administration of the Yogyakarta Institute of Teacher Training and Education (IKIP Yogyakarta).
Under Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia number 93/1999 dated August 4, 1999 IKIP Yogyakarta was changed to State University of Yogyakarta (UNY). It was followed by the organizations below this institute, Research Institute of the Institute of Teacher Training and Education of Yogyakarta turned into Research Institute of State University of Yogyakarta, and the Institute of Community Services IKIP Yogyakarta changed to Community Services Institute of State University of Yogyakarta. This wider mandate consequences on the addition and expansion of the areas of study in the field of research and dedication non-educational field, although it still has a strong commitment to the field of education. The decision to grant wider mandate is reinforced by a decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Decree number 003/0/2001 of the Statute of the State University of Yogyakarta.
Based on the Permendiknas (Ministerial Regulation of the Minister of National Education) number 23 year 2011 concerning Organization and Administration of the State University of Yogyakarta, and Permendiknas number 34 year 2011 on the Statute of the State University of Yogyakarta, LPM UNY and Research Institute of UNY merged into the Institute of Research and Community Services, Yogyakarta State University (Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat) abbreviated LPPM UNY. Institute of Research and Community Services has the task to implement, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the implementation of research activities and community services.
Change of the institutional status changes paradigm of the function of LPPM UNY not just carry out its primary function, but it should continue to perform a variety of innovative researches and community services in order to support UNY’s efforts towards World-class University. To sustain this achievement, no less important is the cooperation with various parties on a local, national, and international levels. The change of the status and progress of LPPM UNY demand that the vision and mission to be accomplished by LPPM UNY line with its vision, mission, policy direction, development and university work program. UNY vision in 2025 is to be a world-class educational university based on faith, independence, and scholarship.
